Common questions

What owners ask before the first call. If yours is not here, ask it on the call. We will tell you plainly if we are not the right fit.

Frequently asked

How is practice bookkeeping different from regular bookkeeping?

Four things are true of a practice and false of most other businesses: a third party decides what you get paid, you are often paid before you deliver, your largest cost is also what generates your revenue, and your capacity is physically fixed. A standard chart of accounts mishandles all four, and always in the same direction. It makes the practice look healthier than it is.

What actually happens in the monthly meeting?

We close the month, then walk the statements with you line by line: what changed, what it means, and what decision it points to. You leave knowing your production-to-collections gap, your margin by provider or service line, and where the next dollar should go.

Do you replace our bookkeeper?

Usually. The close and the read are one job here, so the numbers and their interpretation are not split between two firms.

How do you scope an engagement?

After the first call and a look at your file, you get a scope and fee, what the work covers, on what cadence, and what it costs. Scope depends on practice size and complexity: transaction volume, number of providers, locations and entities, whether you carry inventory, and how much deferred revenue the model involves. No surprise scope later.

Do you do our taxes, or work with our CPA?

We keep the books and do the CFO work, and we work alongside your CPA, so they file from clean, closed financials so entity and equipment questions can be raised during the year. If you want one firm handling the return as well, say so on the first call and we will point you to firms that do.

General information for practice owners, not accounting, tax, legal, valuation or investment advice for your situation. MedPraxis CFO is not a CPA firm, a registered investment adviser, or a business broker. Talk to your own CPA, attorney or adviser before acting on anything here.
